The Older Persons Grant (commonly known as the state pension) is a social grant provided by the South African government to assist senior citizens who are no longer able to earn an income due to their age.

Eligibility
1) You must be a South African citizen, permanent resident, or refugee.
2) You must be 60 years or older.
3) You must not be receiving any other social grant for yourself.
4) Your income and assets must not exceed certain limits (subject to a means test).

Grant Amount
1) The grant amount is R2,090 per month for individuals between 60 and 74 years old.
2) For individuals aged 75 and older, the grant amount is R2,100 per month.

How to Apply
1) You can apply at your nearest SASSA office.
2) You’ll need to bring your ID, proof of residence, and proof of income and assets (for the means test).
3) If you’re unable to go in person, a family member or a friend can apply on your behalf with the necessary documents.
